Inspired by the traditional daily offerings made by the Balinese people, this painting brings a moment of peace to the canvas. A fisherman’s simple platform of bound driftwood casts shadows on the sand under the soft light, offering the viewer a fixed point between the intersecting lines on which to focus. When the rising tide destroys the structure, it is rebuilt; a perpetual act of thanks and faith. This is merely one way in which the Balinese demonstrate their acceptance of life’s transient nature.
