Red Jasper River II

La Gran Sabana, Venezuela
51” X 38”
oil on canvas
available in giclee on canvas or paper

During her trek through the Grand Savannah of Venezuela, the artist was guided to a riverbed made of red jasper.  The color of the riverbed began to break up into patterns, their edges softened by the steady flow of shallow water. She had the sensation that she was walking on a field of energy, one that was neither liquid nor solid. She imagined what it would look like if there was no separation between water and rock at all. In this painting, the energetic world is held in focus; the viewer can feel the pull where the water is diverted from its forward course, and how it spirals in every direction to rejoin the larger flow.
